Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Project Superintendent – Scenic Fabrication to lead the setup and daily operations of a temporary fabrication warehouse supporting TED 2027 in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

This role will oversee scenic carpentry, custom fabrication, assembly, finishing, material handling, and shipping operations. The ideal candidate is a strong field leader who can establish an efficient production environment, coordinate multiple skilled trades, and ensure high-quality scenic elements are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

This is a working leadership position ideal for a seasoned scenic production manager, specialty fabrication superintendent, or commercial construction superintendent with extensive shop management experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup and organization of a temporary fabrication warehouse, including workstations, material storage, equipment placement, and production flow.

  • Direct daily scenic carpentry, fabrication, assembly, painting, finishing, crating, and logistics activities.

  • Develop and execute daily production schedules to meet critical project milestones and shipping deadlines.

  • Supervise foremen, carpenters, fabricators, painters, warehouse personnel, and subcontractors.

  • Review shop drawings, fabrication specifications, material takeoffs, and production requirements.

  • Coordinate material procurement, deliveries, equipment rentals, and outside vendor services.

  • Monitor labor productivity, crew assignments, production progress, and schedule performance.

  • Implement and enforce workplace safety procedures, quality-control standards, and efficient shop practices.

  • Oversee inventory management, crating, freight preparation, outbound shipments, and truck loading.

  • Coordinate return shipments, warehouse organization, and final project closeout.

  • Identify production bottlenecks, resolve operational challenges, and communicate staffing or scheduling needs to project leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in commercial construction, scenic fabrication, millwork, exhibits, specialty manufacturing, or related production environments.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple crews, skilled trades, and simultaneous fabrication activities.

  • Strong working knowledge of carpentry methods, shop equipment, fabrication drawings, and production sequencing.

  • Experience establishing and managing fabrication shops, warehouses, or production facilities.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, coordinate material requirements, and maintain production schedules.

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency with digital scheduling tools, spreadsheets, labor tracking, and daily production reporting.

  • Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment with demanding project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Scenic fabrication, theatrical production, trade show, exhibit, or large-scale live-event experience.

  • Experience coordinating custom fabrication, specialty finishes, and complex shipping logistics.

  • Previous experience launching temporary production facilities or managing high-volume fabrication operations.

Ideal Candidate

A decisive, organized, and solutions-oriented superintendent who can transform an empty warehouse into a fully functioning fabrication operation. The successful candidate will lead from the floor, maintain accountability across multiple crews, anticipate production challenges, and keep the project moving efficiently from initial setup through final shipment and closeout.
