Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mobile Crane Operator to safely and efficiently operate hydraulic mobile cranes and boom trucks ranging from approximately 40 to 300 tons.

This position requires hands-on experience with Liebherr mobile cranes, National Crane boom trucks, and similar hydraulic mobile cranes. The operator must be capable of independently setting up, configuring, operating, and shutting down equipment in accordance with manufacturer requirements, approved lift plans, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety procedures.

Candidates should have strong working knowledge of load charts, crane configurations, rigging, signaling, ground conditions, and critical-lift procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate hydraulic mobile cranes ranging from approximately 40–300 tons.
  • Operate Liebherr mobile cranes, including LTM and LRT models.
  • Operate National Crane boom trucks and comparable hydraulic mobile cranes.
  • Perform crane setup, leveling, outrigger deployment, and shutdown.
  • Select appropriate counterweights, boom configurations, jibs, and attachments.
  • Read, understand, and apply manufacturer load charts.
  • Calculate and verify gross load, net load, operating radius, boom length, crane capacity, deductions, and ground-bearing requirements.
  • Conduct required pre-operation and daily equipment inspections.
  • Verify crane configuration against approved lift plans.
  • Monitor LMI/RCI systems and other operational aids.
  • Safely execute lifts in confined, congested, and active construction environments.
  • Perform blind lifts while coordinating with qualified signal persons.
  • Coordinate closely with riggers, signal persons, superintendents, foremen, and lift directors.
  • Maintain awareness of power lines, personnel, structures, equipment, and other job-site hazards.
  • Safely travel, maneuver, and position mobile cranes throughout construction sites.
  • Properly utilize crane mats, cribbing, and ground-stabilization methods.
  • Assist with crane assembly and disassembly when required.
  • Communicate effectively using radios and standardized crane hand signals.
  • Complete required daily inspection, safety, and operating documentation.
  • Exercise stop-work authority whenever unsafe conditions are identified.
  • Follow OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC, manufacturer requirements, lift plans, and site-specific safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • NCCCO TLL/TSS certification required.
  • NCCCO-TL license/certification as applicable to assigned equipment.
  • Minimum Class B CDL required; Class A CDL preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of documented experience operating Liebherr hydraulic mobile cranes.
  • Demonstrated experience operating cranes over 100 tons strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Liebherr LTM and/or LRT cranes.
  • Strong understanding of crane load charts, rigging practices, signaling, lift planning, and ground conditions.
  • Ability to independently set up and safely operate hydraulic mobile cranes in demanding construction environments.
  • NCCCO Rigger Level I or II preferred.

Experience Screening

Candidates should be prepared to provide specific operating experience rather than only total years in the trade. During screening, applicants will be asked:

How many operating hours do you have, at what crane capacities, and on which specific crane makes/models?

Examples should identify:

  • Approximate operating hours
  • Crane make and model
  • Crane capacity/tonnage
  • Type of work or lifts performed

Preference will be given to operators who can demonstrate substantial seat time on Liebherr LTM/LRT equipment and other hydraulic mobile cranes in the 100+ ton range.
